Hello! My name is Tetsuya Tanaka, and I’m a first-generation freshman from Japan and China. I’m considering a double major in Political Science and Computer Science, but I’m also excited to explore other fields through Amherst’s open curriculum!
Extracurricular Activities and On-Campus Employment
Outside of classroom, I am involved in many clubs and teams:
- the Amherst Debate Society,
- OLIO (our yearbook team),
- Amherst Badminton Team
- Sustainable Solutions.
In addition, I also hold multiple on-campus employment:
- Admission Office Student Blogger
- Learning and Teaching Commons Assistant
- Student Photographer for OLIO (Amherst’s Yearbook)
- Student Photographer for the Office of Communications.
Hobbies and Fun Facts
In my free time, I enjoy reading (mainly non-fiction), traveling, socializing, and photography. Here are a few fun facts about me:
- I speak Japanese, Mandarin, and English.
- I’ve attended over 12 schools, including IB curriculum, international schools, and Japanese public schools.
- I love exploring unique bookstores and discovering their distinct styles.
- I played ice hockey for about five years.
- I’m a big fan of bubble tea!
