Amherst may be small, but its food scene is amazing. My friends and I have spent countless meals exploring the restaurants around town. Whether we’re craving a quick bite or a cozy sit-down meal, these spots never disappoint. Here’s our countdown of my top 8 favorite restaurants, ending with my ultimate favorite!
#8 Royal Chicken & Kebab
Royal Chicken is the ultimate late-night go-to! Let me be honest here—this spot makes the list mainly because it’s one of the few places open past midnight on weekends (sorry, Antonio’s fans, but it didn’t make the cut). Their BBQ tenders and platters are surprisingly good, and for the price, it’s one of the best deals in town. If you’re craving something sweet, their fried Oreos are a must-try. Affordable, tasty, and open late, Royal Chicken is a lifesaver for those midnight munchies! Fun fact: This place was open on Thanksgiving, so this is where I ate dinner!
#7 Taqueria del Pueblo
Taqueria del Pueblo is a hidden gem for authentic Mexican cuisine, and it’s also open late on weekends—perfect for those late-night cravings. Whether you’re in the mood for a burrito, a bowl, or my friends’ personal favorite, the birria tacos, this spot never disappoints. I personally love it because their Mexican rice tastes just like a similar version my mom and grandma make, which brings a wave of nostalgia every time I dig in. It’s right next to Royal Chicken, so if you’re out on a late-night food run, you can hit up both spots and satisfy all your munchies in one go.
#6. LimeRed Teahouse
LimeRed is a go-to spot for refreshing bubble teas and creative drinks. While the matcha lattes are great, my personal favorite is always the honeydew smoothie. It’s sweet, refreshing, and hits the spot every time. The drinks are a bit on the pricier side, so I usually reserve a trip there for when I feel like treating myself, especially after being mindful about my spending. Whether I’m catching up with friends or just unwinding with a book, LimeRed provides the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing break with a delicious drink in hand.
#5 Coronation Café
Located on 5-10 minutes off campus, Coronation Café is a lifesaver when you need a break from Val and you have some money to spend. They serve up great coffee, baked goods, and breakfast that keep us fueled throughout the day. The cozy atmosphere makes it a great spot for quick study breaks.
#4 Share Coffee
Share Coffee is a haven for coffee and matcha lovers. LIKE MYSELF!!! Their brews are rich and flavorful, and their pastries are always fresh. Whether we’re meeting up for group projects or just enjoying some solo time, Share Coffee is a reliable favorite. It is a bit pricy though, but I suggest trying it out.
#3 Lili’s Restaurant
Lili’s brings a taste of home-cooked Authentic Xi’An Chinese Amherst. Their generous portions and authentic flavors keep us coming back, especially for their dumpling and soup. It’s the perfect spot for a hearty and satisfying meal, and it is the best when it it chilly outside and you need some warm food.
#2 Momo’s Tibetan Restaurant
Momo’s is an absolute treasure. Their momos (dumplings) are heavenly, and their dry noodle dishes or noodle soup is the ultimate comfort dish. The warm, inviting atmosphere makes every visit feel special, and the unique flavors are always a hit. My friends and I particularly like ordering the supinmandu to spice our food up even more!!
#1 Miss Saigon
UMMM This is the best spot, so questions asked. Topping our list is Miss Saigon, a Vietnamese restaurant that never fails to impress. From their aromatic pho to their fresh spring rolls, every dish is amazing. The flavors are unmatched, and it’s become our number-one spot for satisfying both our taste buds and our souls.
