Salad dish

Hi readers,

I hope you enjoyed New Year’s Day! If you’re curious about the food at Amherst, especially if you are vegetarian, look no further!

I’ve been a vegetarian since my sophomore year of high school. When coming to college, I was nervous about dining. Would there be enough vegetarian options with only one dining hall at Amherst (Valentine, aka Val) compared to four at UMass?

The answer is yes–Val always has gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options! I would rate the food at Val an 8/10. I am satisfied with the dining hall at Amherst College! I always have something to eat, there are plenty of options, and I look forward to my meals. My go-to dishes are pasta, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. I also love the plant-based burgers, sausages, and hot dogs Val often serves! They also serve tofu–which I am not a huge fan of, if I’m being honest–and have vegan desserts and cheese (which are delectable). When the main dish at Val has meat, there is always a vegetarian/vegan substitute option, which is excellent. You can find Val’s menu on the Mammoth Mobile App.

I like to have breakfast at any given point in the day and get cereal whenever I crave cinnamon toast crunch and honey nut cheerios soaked in almond milk. Amherst always has its cereal bar open! I also get hungry at night and love that Amherst offers “Late Night” dining Sunday through Thursday, where they have a rotating menu of Mochi, macaroni and cheese bites, mozzarella sticks, tenders (chicken and plant-based), and more.

The UMass Dining halls may seem enticing, but I assure you that the dining hall at Amherst College is just as wonderful (besides the tofu)! Try it if you haven’t already.
