Hi readers! Welcome back! Happy spring break! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the story of my trip for spring break.
Spring break is such a fun time at Amherst! It is a time when students can unwind and take a breath before the final weeks of the spring semester commence. Spring break is a week-long break for all students to either unwind by staying on campus or partaking in travel.
Because I am on the track and field team here at Amherst, we are in season during the spring semester, so we only get a portion of the week off because we have to train for the remainder of the break. Even though we only get a portion of the break off, members of the team are still able to travel to some amazing places!
For this spring break, I decided to visit my boyfriend, Ivan Betancourt ‘26, who is studying abroad in Stockholm, Sweden! A large portion of students at Amherst College study abroad during their time at Amherst, and I was so excited to visit where he had been living and studying!

The first step of my spring break adventure was taking a very long flight to Sweden! My international travel experience was decently smooth, as my excitement to visit a new country was keeping my energy up! Once I landed in Sweden, we took a train from the airport to Stockholm. The public transportation system in Stockholm was very clean and easy to use.
Our first day in Stockholm was a lot of fun! First, we ate at a Swedish cafe, which was so good! Then, we walked around the shops of downtown Stockholm until it was time for us to go to an opera concert. We went to the concert in a beautiful venue, where they sang in the beautiful Swedish language.

For our second day in Stockholm, we started off the day by attending mass at a local Catholic church. It was really awesome to attend church in the local language, and see the similarities and differences to attending mass in the U.S. We also took a tour of the beautiful water that surrounds Stockholm by boat.

For our last day in Stockholm, we decided that we needed a little bit of warmth for our spring break, so we were able to take some time at a local hot tub, where we spent the afternoon relaxing. There was also an iconic Swedish sauna, which we were also able to use to warm up.
Finally, I made the final stretch of my spring break adventure by traveling back to Boston. I was very grateful that my travel went well, and that I was able to spend some fabulous time in a new country. Traveling to visit another Amherst student while they are studying abroad was such an amazing experience! I am so excited to take part in my own travel abroad experience soon. I cannot wait to see what next spring break has in store!
