Hi readers! Welcome back! Sit back, relax, and enjoy learning about what it is like to be a member of the Amherst College Law Review.

In coming to college, there is always curiosity around which clubs are available at the college you will be attending, and which ones will be the best to join. I remember when I was applying for colleges, I would always look at the clubs they offered, and imagine what it would be like to be a member. Luckily for me, Amherst had a lot of clubs for me to choose from, but in coming to college, now I had the challenge of deciding which to join.

Thankfully for me, Amherst College already has an event for students to be exposed to all of the clubs that the school has to offer…the club fair! During the fall semester of my first-year at Amherst, I was anxious to begin joining clubs and getting involved in the campus, like most Amherst students are. In asking around as to when I would be able to join a club, I would hear people mention that the club fair would be the place where I would gain all the information I needed.

In attending the club fair for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised! It was a beautiful day outside, where all of the student clubs were outside on the first-year quad, where they each had a table that students could walk up to and gather information about the clubs they may want to join.

A beautiful day at Amherst College, overlooking Memorial Hill.

In walking around the club fair, a few different clubs caught my eye. The first table I walked up to was The Amherst Student, the student newspaper on campus. I knew that I wanted to join this club, so I signed up for information regarding an introductory meeting. I also visited the Catholic fellowship table, where I learned about the Catholic student activities that I was excited to be a part of. Lastly, I passed by a table titled Amherst College Law Review, that caught my attention. I knew that I was interested in studying Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought (LJST) at the college, but I was unsure what this club would be.

In walking up to the table, the club representative was very nice and open to answering all of my questions! The representative explained that the Law Review was an interdisciplinary club that met once a week to talk about articles that were submitted to the club, which are approved, and edited to be submitted into a journal at the end of the year. I knew that I wanted to join!

Now, I have been a member of the Amherst College Law Review since my first semester at Amherst, and I am so grateful I joined! I look forward to our weekly Sunday meetings, where we always have a new and interesting article to read, discuss, and vote on whether it should be approved or not. We always have our meetings in the beautiful and historic Octagon, which was built in 1847.

I have met new Amherst students through joining the club, and some that have become my close friends! Joining clubs at Amherst is a great way to meet new members of the Amherst community, and broaden your understanding of what you are learning in the classroom. I am so grateful for all of the clubs that Amherst offers!
