Me, my fellow admission interns, and my supervisors in front of Wilson Admission Center

Hey everyone! How are you all doing?

I can’t believe summer is already winding down — I only have a few weeks left of my internship in the admission office! So instead of writing another food blog with Calla this week, we thought it’d be fun to switch things up and take you through a typical day in the life of a summer admissions intern. Here’s what a day usually looks like for me!

I usually wake up around 7:00 or 8:00 AM, depending on when my shift starts (either at 8:30 or 9:30). Once I’m up and ready, I head to Val for breakfast.

This summer, I made a promise to myself to actually eat breakfast every day… and I’ve been doing pretty well so far! My go-to order? Scrambled eggs, O’Brien potatoes, and crispy bacon. Elite combo.

My favorite Val Breakfast: scrambled eggs, O’Brien potatoes, and crispy bacon.

After breakfast, I walk over to the admissions office to start the day. Mondays kick off with a big team meeting that includes all the interns and our supervisors. The best part? Rachel (not me — my boss!) bakes for us every Monday, so we always start the week with homemade treats. It definitely makes Monday mornings something to look forward to. Once the meeting wraps up, I usually dive into independent work — whether that’s writing blog posts like this one or working on my Rural Outreach Project, which has been such a rewarding experience.

The main entrance to Smith College

One of the coolest parts of this internship has been visiting other schools in the Five College Consortium! So far, we’ve toured Smith College and Mount Holyoke College, and it’s been awesome learning about what makes each campus unique.

Mount Holyoke’s library totally blew me away — the interior is so classic and elegant.

After visiting other campuses, it’s time to give tours of our own! Being a tour guide is such a fun part of the job, even if it means getting sniped (i.e. caught in a sneaky photo) by your friends every time they see you in action.

Once my shift ends around 4:30 PM, I either hit the gym (I’ve been trying to go more consistently!) or just hang out with friends.

Spending the summer at Amherst with some of my favorite people has been such a special experience. I’ve grown so much closer to my friends, and I’ve loved getting to meet new visitors every day at the admissions office. Honestly, it’s shaping up to be one of the highlights of my college life.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more blog posts before the summer wraps up! 💜
