Hi everyone! This is my first non-introductory solo blog post, and I’m so excited to bring you along for a summer day at Amherst!
During the summer, we offer research opportunities and various internships around campus in lieu of summer courses, meaning you can be on campus (with free housing and dining!) doing one of many different things such as:
- SURF: Our summer STEM program, where professors hire students to aid their own studies and experiments.
- SCHUPF: Our summer humanities program, where students choose a field of study and a professor will help them in their research.
- SBRI: Our summer bridge research program for first generation and low-income students, who work with a few professors and explore a topic through different lenses.
- Admission Office (Me!): A group of students work in the admissions office giving daily tours of campus, doing outreach work, and going on many field trips to museums and other colleges in the area.
- Book and Plow: A group of students work on our campus farm, growing and harvesting various plants, such as fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
These are a few of the summer programs Amherst offers, all of which are PAID, which is awesome. So, you basically finish your workday and get to spend the rest of your afternoon and night with your friends.
So, as an admissions intern, my day pretty much solely consists of talking people’s ears off and walking around backwards. But after work ends at 4:30 pm, once we’ve spent seven excruciating hours together, we love to hang out even more! Here’s a typical day in my life while on campus during the summer. Pictures to follow.
