Hi everyone! This is Rachel.
This is my last blog for the summer as our internship is coming to an end. I’ve really enjoyed writing these posts over the past few months, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing them.
For my final blog, I wanted to talk about something that’s on my mind right now as I pack for my next semester’s housing—how storage works at Amherst College.
Coming from Colorado, and as someone without a car, I was really stressed out about moving my things in and out of housing. If you’re feeling that same anxiety, I want to reassure you: it’s not as bad as you think!
That’s because Amherst partners with Boomerang Storage for student storage. What’s great about Boomerang is that they offer door-to-door service. You just pick up as many boxes as you need when they visit the office, pack your things, and leave the boxes in your room. After you leave, they collect them and deliver them directly to your next semester’s housing—and you’ll be charged afterward, based on the number of boxes you used.
If you’re on campus over the summer for research or an internship (like me!), Boomerang also offers transitional storage. This means they can deliver your boxes to your summer housing and then pick them up again when you move at the end of the summer.
While Boomerang isn’t free, Amherst provides subsidized storage for students whose total family contribution is $10,000 or less. This subsidy covers up to 4 boxes, totes, or pieces of luggage (each 4.5 cubic feet or smaller) for up to one academic year. Boomerang’s standard boxes meet this size requirement.
Another storage option is to rent a storage unit with friends and split the cost. This can be a good choice if you have larger items or want more flexibility.
There are many ways to handle storage at Amherst, so hopefully this guide helps you feel less stressed and more prepared.
Good luck with your move—and thanks for reading my blogs this summer!
