Hi there!!!! My name is Emerson Waller, and I’m a first-year student from Atlanta, Georgia. I declared my major in Sexuality, Women’s, and Gender Studies a few weeks ago, and although I know I chose it earlier than usual, I’m thrilled to be part of the department.
I’m involved in Mock Trial and serve on the e-board of the Reproductive Justice Alliance, and I enjoy attending weekly Zumba classes in the O’Connor Commons. One fun fact about me is that I can speak at about 350 words per minute, which is a vestige of my four years of high school policy debate.
I’m excited to be an admissions blogger because I genuinely love Amherst and admissions work, and I want to help future students experience the kind of connection I had when I was applying. I was fortunate to speak with current students and faculty during my college search, and those conversations shaped my decision. Not everyone gets that kind of access, so through this blog, I hope to bring you into daily life here. The routines, the delights, the rhythm of campus — everything I once wanted to know as a prospective student.
See you soon,
Emerson 💜🦣🖊️
