Hey everyone! My name is Tony and I’m a first-generation first-year from Garfield, New Jersey! I’m just thirty minutes from New York City, so coming to rural Western Massachusetts for college was a crazy transition for me: so many stars! Back home, I have two rabbits: Bad Bunny and Daisy. We spoil them a little too much, but they don’t seem to mind. I’m a prospective LJST (Law, Jurisprudence & Social Thought) and Economics major, but I’m excited to explore all sorts of classes through the open-curriculum.
Aside from classes, I’m involved in Mock Trial, Moot Court, and Asian Student Association. I’m also a part of AAS (Amherst Association of Students) as a Senator for the Class of 2029. If you’re interested in becoming more involved with Amherst’s student life, feel free to show up to one of our meetings: Mondays at 8:30PM in Converse Hall’s Red Room!
I’m so excited to be an admissions student blogger because I want to show the world, especially prospective applicants, what Amherst offers its students. During the last admissions cycle, I decided to apply early-decision to Amherst College partially because of these blogs: so much of what I learned ended up in my supplemental essays. By blogging about my experience as a FG-LI (first-generation low-income) and urban-originating student, I can’t wait to tell you all about our college and, if you’re still wondering whether or not to apply, hopefully convince you to join our amazing campus!
Until next time,
Tony
