Hi! My name is Jooah Bae, a sophomore (‘28) and a prospective economics and music double major. If you ask where I’m from, I’d say Yongin, South Korea. However, my hometown where I graduated from high school is Oahu, Hawai’i— an island that convinces you life needs nothing more than nature (and good food, of course). I immigrated to the States in sixth grade and have since moved through Massachusetts, Virginia, Hawai’i, and California.

Thinking back, Amherst was the quickest place to feel like a true home to me, and I think this sense of stability came from the remarkable community that I fostered through extracurriculars! My major commitments on campus include being a vice chair in the Asian Student Association, an assistant director in an A capella group (the Sabrinas), and a vocalist in jazz combo. (As you could probably tell, I love music.) Some other experiences I really enjoyed here include going to equestrian lessons during my first semester here as a total beginner, caving and skiing with the outing club, and taking film photography through the photography club.

I am excited to blog because I am a person who learns through examples and stories, and I would be thrilled if glimpses of my campus life give character to what could be lines of description on the Amherst College website. I hope to bring helpful perspectives and enjoyment to prospective students or any other audience it may entertain!
