Hi everyone!

This is Jooah.

Today I would like to share with you one of my newest commitments on campus, K:netics! The highlight of this past week for me was the K:netics performances, as we performed at two of the five college consortiums, Mount Holyoke College and UMass Amherst.

Rehearsal at UMass Amherst!

K:netics is a K-pop dance group on campus. Joining this club was one of the most nerve-wrecking experiences for me as I had never danced on a stage before. The most adjacent experience I had was pulling out random moves in front of my relatives during family Christmas gatherings back in elementary school.

I would say my participation in K:netics is living proof that Amherst really provides opportunities for your interests, even if you don’t have any prior experience. For example, besides dancing, I got to learn how to ride horses at Amherst (yes, I rode alone, and by the end I got to canter although I started as a total beginner!).

Even though it could be scary to try new things in college when you are already facing so many changes, the community you build with other students really makes everything worth it. Trust me, I still get very very nervous before every Knetics performance because I have never been a dancer in my life, but it is always so liberating to hype each other up with teammates and interact with many different dancers all over the five college consortiums nearby Amherst. This is why one of my favorite things at Amherst is the immediate connection you feel with others of similar interests! I am always surprised at how a simple connection can bring so many diverse people together.

So, no matter where you are, I encourage you to try new things (especially if you are at a place like Amherst 😚). I hope you enjoyed reading my post & feel free to reach out anytime to jobae28@amherst.edu

See you next week!
