High school graduation

Hello readers,

You are most likely halfway through the school year! You should be proud of yourselves for all you’ve accomplished so far. I’m proud of you all. High school seniors, you’re so close to graduating!!! As you can tell from the title, this blog is dedicated to stopping senioritis. I want you all to continue being motivated and finish your senior year strong!

Last year, I was in the same place as you all. My college applications were submitted, and I counted down the days until I could receive my diploma. My motivation for the second semester had seemed to vanish. My peers had also stopped putting forth their best effort in class, which made me even less motivated. Let me tell you that senioritis is a slippery slope. A common myth is that second-semester senior-year grades don’t matter; this is not true. Students can have college acceptances rescinded once final transcripts get sent if their grades significantly decrease. You can also have your diploma withheld if you don’t pass your classes (which has happened to a couple of my friends). So, keep those grades up!

On that note, keep being respectful in class and being responsible. Your seniority does not give you the right to act poorly or goof off. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t enjoy yourself. Please do! I want you all to make the best of your last year in high school. Keep spending time with friends and family and doing what you love. But don’t stop putting effort into your clubs, jobs, or classes, and keep making safe, smart choices.

Finish the year strong! You want to be proud of yourself when this is all over. Don’t burn out, but do what you can to maximize your time in high school. You don’t want to have any regrets, and you want your teachers to remember you when you were maximizing your full potential. Setting monthly academic and personal goals for myself helped me stay motivated in my senior year. I also kept reminding myself that I would never get these years back, to enjoy it, and to try my best while it lasted.
