Hello everyone! I’m Ailís, a class of 2027 junior here at Amherst. When I first visited as a high schooler, Massachusetts seemed far away from my home in Atlanta, Georgia. I chose Amherst because of its close-knit community and excellent resources, and I’m glad I did.

Even though I am far away from my hometown, I feel the school offers a strong support network to students in both successful and challenging times. I spent my first two years trying out everything from sculpture to chemistry, unsure of my path. Eventually, I discovered computer science, which is now my major.

This past summer, I was a SURF fellow, working with a Boston Dynamics robot—the one that resembles a dog. We call her Daisy, and I especially enjoy working with her when I miss my three dogs back home. My work experiences at Amherst have supported my academic growth and helped me build close relationships with professors and classmates. I feel lucky to be at a school with so many opportunities to connect with the faculty and my peers.

In my free time, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee with my team, Sparkle Motion. I also walk on the rail trail, draw, and hang out with friends. I am a dedicated audience member of many performance art groups and sports teams–there is always something happening on campus!

I gravitated toward admissions blogging because it reflects the continuous nature of discovery that defines Amherst. Here, I continually discover new interests, events, resources, and amazing people. I am so grateful to share this experience through blogging about my continued time at Amherst.

Best wishes,

Ailís
