Hi everyone! I hope you are well and enjoying this March! We had a few nice days in Amherst, but then got a lot of snow on Wednesday. The snow was beautiful, but I know that over the next few days it will inevitably start to get dirty and lose its appeal. This week’s blog is about what a school week in my life in my Spring 2022 semester looks like. Please email me at sgoldsmith24@amherst.edu with any questions!

Monday:

This is my busiest day of the week. I like to get up a bit early, go on a run, enjoy my coffee and breakfast, and do some homework before my classes:

11-11:50: French

12-12:50: Organic Chemistry

1:30-2:50: History

4-4:50: Chemistry discussion

On Monday evenings I get dinner with some friends and then spend the evening reading, doing homework and hanging out with my roommate.

Tuesday:

On Tuesdays I have only one (albeit long) class, so I have a lot of time during the day to do some work to prepare me for the rest of the week. I often start French History readings in the morning, and finish them after my class:

11:30-1:40: Evolutionary Biology

That’s it! I do have a shift of my job in the library from 7-9 PM, but besides that, I have the entire afternoon to do homework, exercise, and read. I often schedule meetings for Tuesday afternoons, and I go to biology office hours to work on weekly assignments.

Wednesday:

On Wednesdays, I have a four hour shift after my classes, so I try to get some work done in the morning before my classes start:

11-11:50: French

12-12:50: Organic Chemistry

1:30-2:50: History

After my classes, I try to do reading and work to prepare for Thursday, and fit in a snack before my shift.

Thursday:

On Thursdays I go on a run in the morning, do laundry, and do some homework before my classes start:

11:30-12:50: Evolutionary Biology

3:00-6:30: Organic Chemistry Lab

In the evenings, my friends and I watch Grey’s Anatomy while drinking lots of tea and wondering if the show will ever be cancelled. I generally then do homework until 11, and then read for a half hour before going to bed.

Friday:

Fridays are pretty short; I have only two classes!

11-11:50: French

12-12:50: Organic Chemistry

After class, I have lunch with friends, spend the afternoon doing homework, having meetings, going on walks, and occasionally taking a nap. I often read for an hour or two in the afternoon on Fridays, which helps me decompress at the end of the week. Hillel has our Shabbat dinners every Friday at 6:30, and I usually arrive early to receive the food from the delivery driver and set up tables and chairs. After Hillel, I’ll sometimes go out with my friends, or spend time in with my roommate.

I hope everyone enjoys their spring break, whenever it is!
