I wouldn’t believe it if you told me during my first semester here at Amherst College that I’d have three student jobs the very next semester. Yet, by the end of the second semester, I was happily working all three current jobs.

Of course, having student jobs takes up a lot of time, but I enjoy every single one of my jobs. The first job I got out of the three was this blogging job. After the fall golf season ended and I had more time in my schedule, I stumbled upon this job listing featured in the Daily Mammoth, the newsletter we get in our email at the start of every day, and I decided to apply just to see. I enjoy writing, so this job would be perfect. Plus, I really enjoy talking about Amherst to anybody interested, and having a blog where I can talk about my day-to-day life at Amherst was the perfect outlet for that.

The second job I got was my job at the Writing Center as an Equity and Inclusion partner. As a frequent user of the Writing Center and a person passionate about writing in general (as I’m sure you’ve already gathered), I knew the role would be perfect for me. My third job is being a research assistant for Professor Peralta, who I had as a professor for my History of Race and Gender in Comics. I saw the job listing on Workday and talked with her about my interest in zine-making and Asian American migration. Now, I work with a grad student at UMass on Professor Peralta’s project, which aims to share stories of local businesses owned by Asian Americans and how they build community here in Amherst.

Most of my friends here on campus also have student jobs across different departments. One of my friends works on our AI in Liberal Arts team here on campus, one of my friends is a Community Advisor for a dorm and a Peer Advocate for Sexual Respect, and two of my friends are Teaching Assistants for STEM classes. It’s amazing how many types of jobs there are available at Amherst, how accessible they are, and how everyone can find at least one job, if not multiple, related to their interests. Furthermore, my student jobs have provided valuable experience that has helped me apply for internships and other opportunities. I’m excited to see what more amazing adventures my jobs take me on.
