This year, I celebrated my first birthday in college, and it turned out to be more meaningful than I could have ever imagined. It was a day full of love, laughter, and deep reflection on how much I’ve grown since arriving at Amherst.
The day started with a delightful surprise—my friends had decorated my door! Walking past my room and seeing all the streamers and messages made me feel incredibly special. It was a simple gesture, but one that reminded me how lucky I am to have found such amazing people here. College can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you’re away from home, but moments like this reaffirmed that I’ve truly found my place.

Later, my boyfriend made the day even more memorable. He surprised me with a cake—a beautiful, delicious treat that instantly brightened my mood—and then took me out to eat at one of my favorite spots, Miss Saigon. If you’ve read one of my previous blogs, you’ll know how much I love this restaurant, so having a meal there on my birthday was the perfect way to celebrate. The ambiance, the food, and the company all came together to create a moment I’ll cherish forever.
After dinner, my friends and I gathered to share the cake, and we sang “Happy Birthday.” As we sat there, surrounded by people who have become my chosen family, I couldn’t help but feel teary-eyed. It was one of those rare moments where everything felt just right. I realized that, in that moment, I had found my place. I’m not just a student at Amherst—I’m a part of this incredible community. I belong here.

Reflecting on the day, I’m filled with gratitude. College is not just about the academics or the new experiences—it’s about finding people who see you for who you truly are and building connections that feel like home. This birthday was a beautiful reminder of that, and it gave me a deep sense of belonging that I will carry with me throughout my time here at Amherst and beyond.
So, here’s to my first birthday in college—a celebration of growth, friendship, and the amazing people who make this place feel like home. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to mark the occasion.
