Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Park, and I am a rising sophomore from Seoul, South Korea, and Grand Junction, Colorado. I moved to the States in 8th grade from Korea and have been living in Colorado ever since! I am double-majoring in Economics and Spanish and hope to study abroad in Spain during my junior year. Thanks to the open curriculum at Amherst, I took Spanish for the first time, and I fell in love with it! My goal is to become trilingual before I graduate.

Outside of school, I serve on the E-Board of the Asian Students’ Association, where we host many social events and educational programs to engage in community building and political engagement. We have a lot of food-centered events, so feel free to stop by any of the events we host!

I also serve as a Rural Student Ambassador in the Admission Office. Amherst recently joined the Small Town and Rural Students (“STARS”) College Network—a coalition of 32 colleges and universities that works to increase college enrollment among domestic rural students by giving them more information and support surrounding higher ed—and in support of this work, I’ve been having discussions with my STARS teammates about how we can welcome more students from small/rural towns to Amherst. As I write this blog, I’m actually sitting in the Admission Office—because I work here in the summer as an Visitor Relations Intern too!

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to contact me anytime through email: spark28@amherst.edu. Before coming to Amherst, I remember how I wanted to talk to current students about classes, social life, and many more things. That’s why we are here for you! I would be happy to answer any questions you have. See you next time!
