Hello all. This past weekend has been most riveting. It started with an intense trivia night hosted in the Lipton Lecture Hall of the Science Center. Once we got to the competition site, my friends and I split into two groups of four: The Angry Clams and Gimme Gimme.
After five rounds of grueling trivia on topics like pop culture detectives and guessing songs by ear, the top three out of 10 teams were in contention for the top prize (a giant fluffy capybara)! At first place stood the Twisted Turtles, who had maintained the lead all game and finished with a total score of 50 points. The Angry Clams were, to our pleasant surprise, tied for second with our evil twin, Gimme Gimme. We had one final chance to earn 10 points in the bonus round and prove our indisputable superiority. We wagered a maximum of 10 points that Farfalle was the Italian name for the bow tie pasta. Of course, Gimme Gimme had met our expectations and wagered no less.
What we didn’t expect, however, is that The Twisted Turtles would answer incorrectly, thereby dividing a harmonious friend group into rival enemies vying for first.
After a quick discussion on determining the winner, we agreed to answer another bonus question, this time as a buzzer round at the front of the lecture room. The room stood silent in anticipation. The judge read the question aloud, something about world leaders, but before anyone could process it, someone on Gimme Gimme buzzed in by slamming her hand on the table, shouted the answer, and won the first-place prize. On behalf of the Angry Clams, I can confidently say it was a night to remember, and we were happy with our second-place prize, a capybara night light.
