The Queer Resource Center hosted a two-part event that centers around conversations about queer, gender-affirming, and sustainable fashion. The Queer Resource Center on campus hosts various events on campus throughout the year with the goal that seeks to improve the campus climate for queer and trans students, The QRC collaborates with other resource centers/departments like CARC (Class and Access Resource Center) to meet the needs of Amherst students and promote personal development.
The two-part event allows Amherst students to come together and discuss current issues but also allows the opportunity to voice any concerns that happen on campus.
The QRC focused on Queer Sustainable fashion and went into depth about queer sustainable fashion and the affordability and accessibility of clothes. In the QRC space, the conversation is low-stakes conversations that do not put pressure on individuals that are very interested in sharing but feel that the space is demanding. The QRC also promotes a space that allows students to be comfortable. After attending the first event, everyone is encouraged to sign up to attend the thrifting outing. These events are always welcoming for everyone and productive when attending with friends.
I would encourage you to not only support but attend the variety of events QRC hosts as well as other resource centers on campus. Topics events that happened previously were the documentary, Fly So Far, which focuses on the lives of 17 women in the Ilpongo prison in El Salvador and their wrongful incarceration because of miscarriages and stillbirths.
