Hi everyone, I hope you are well! In this week’s blog, I’m going to talk about some of my favorite places on campus to do various activities. Please email me at sgoldsmith24@amherst.edu if you have any questions!
Best study spots
Every person you ask about favorite study spots will have a different answer, but my favorite spot is the third subfloor below Frost Library, which is nicknamed The Catacombs. The Catacombs are a silent floor, and I like working in silence amongst books and occasionally wandering between the shelves. I also like sitting in rooms in Webster (the Russian building) with a friend and doing homework for several hours at a time. Other people I know enjoy the Science Center, other floors in the library (for example, non-silent and social floors), and common areas in their dorms.
Best napping spots
To be honest, other than one’s dorm room, I’ve noticed that people enjoy sleeping on the couches in the Science Center.
Best places to get food
If students are hungry and don’t want anything from our dining hall, there are lots of places on campus to grab some food. The Science Center has a café that serves tea, coffee, pastries, and lunch, and I know that their bagel sandwiches in particular are a favorite for students. There is also a café in Frost library with tea, coffee, fruit, and desserts, and the man who runs the café is super nice. The College also has a little place called Schwemm’s, located in the student center, where you can buy snacks and desserts in the evening.
This semester, the college has expanded their food offerings by incorporating Food Truck Saturdays, in which two food trucks (the trucks change each week) come to campus every Saturday evening and students can get food for free. We also have Late Night Val, in which the dining hall is open late on Thursdays and Fridays so students can grab food (this week it is nachos and Insomnia Cookies). Lastly, the dining hall has Takeaway Tuesday’s, where they serve extra food from 2-4 PM for students to grab. This week there were mini corn dogs, and last week we had calzones.
Thank you for reading! I hope you have a great week, and please email me at sgoldsmith24@amherst.edu with any questions!
