Frost Library entrance, surrounded by trees and students walking

Hi everyone, I hope you are well! In this blog, I thought I would write a little about how my semester is going, and give an update about what the rest of the semester holds as I approach graduation. Please email me at sgoldsmith24@amherst.edu if you have any questions!

Classes

My classes, unfortunately, are a mixed bag this semester. I really love my French class (called The Republic of Letters) and the professor, and physics is fine – the professors are great but I just am not a fan of physics. Alas, I’m really not enjoying my English class. I like the readings, but I find the class discussion to be stilted and not offer a lot. And I think that for a 100-level class, the professor assigns too much. Oh well. It’ll be over soon.

I’m also in a French discussion class with only French major seniors that met to prepare us for our French comps, but now that comps are over, the class is freeform. We made crepes today, and next week are going to talk about our favorite restaurants from our hometowns.

Thesis

My thesis is coming along! It is due in a little over two weeks, and I’m feeling the pressure. As stressed as it makes me, I’m really glad I chose to do a French thesis. I don’t always love it, but I adore my thesis advisor and am grateful that the thesis gave me the opportunity to build a relationship with her. She is wonderful.

Extra-curriculars

Outside of classes, I’ve been training for my second marathon, which (barring serious injury, which frankly is not looking good) I will run in two weeks. I also have been trying to spend as much time with my friends as possible, read, crochet, and make the most of my remaining weeks here.
